INTRO

The first stage of the wiring up and the attachment of the tail and battery was shown in the previous page (page 10). This page shows the attachment of the neck components.

The new parts are located approximately where the arrows are indicating below.

When completed it will look like this:

Exploded & labelled views below (new parts coloured blue).

ASSEMBLY

The parts are shown below as they are assembled:

The first item to attach is the rear vertical neck section (55)

Rear vertical neck section (55)

Where the yellow arrows show below, undo the screws that hold the front legs to the shoulders, taking care not to dislodge the recessed M4 nuts. Take care also not to damage the wires & connections to the motors.

Now insert one M5 x 50mm socket screw at the orange arrow below, that is, on the rear lugs of the shoulders. Add two M5 washers (lime green arrows below) either side of the neck section and secure with an M5 locknut (at the red arrow below). Tip: use a screwdriver or similar implement to hold everything in place from the opposite side (i.e., at the red arrow below) and as you feed the M5 screw in from the other side, slowly remove the implement.

Tighten until it is secure and then loosen slightly so that part 55 rotates easily.

The next step is to connect the lower crank arm (6) to the lowest set of holes on part 55.

The lower crank arm (6) and the rear vertical neck section (55) are joined by an M4 x 30mm socket screw, two washers and a locknut at the point where the yellow arrows indicate below.

The procedure is the same as indicated above. Nb. the head of the socket screw (orange arrow below) is embedded in a recess.

The image below shows the assembly with these two screws attached.

The next step is to attach the top crank arm (5) to part 55.

This is done with an M4 x 35mm socket screw, an M4 lock nut and three washers (red arrows below).

In this case the M4 locknut is not embedded. Apart from that, the procedure is the same as above.

(The front legs are shown re-attached in the picture but it is better to do that when all the neck sections are in place).

The assembly should now look like this…

Next is to add the front vertical neck section (56)

Front vertical neck section (56)

The lower lug (left hand side of the above photo) attaches to the lower, forward lugs on the shoulders (34 & 34a). The right shoulder will have a captive nut (yellow arrow below) and an M5 x 50mm screw is used to attach the piece using the same procedure as above.

So, as described above, M5 washers are located either side of part 56 to act as bearing surfaces. The procedure is the same as above: connect everything together then tighten and then loosen until the front vertical neck section can rotate easily but without being too loose.

At this point re-attach the front leg / claw assemblies.

Once completed it should look like this:

The next piece to attach is the rear horizontal neck section (57):

Rear horizontal neck section (57)

This is attached to the top lugs of the two vertical neck sections:

This is done for each lug using an M4 x 25mm socket screw, an M4 locknut and three M4 washers.

Two washers either side of the lugs act as bearing surfaces (red arrows below):

The heads of the screws are seated in small recesses so do not need washers.

As elsewhere, tighten the lock-nuts and then loosen to allow easy rotation.

Next add the front horizontal neck section (58).

58. Front horizontal neck section

This is attached using four M3 x 6mm socket screws and M3 captive nuts.

It should now look like this…

Part #59 the long neck rod is added next:

Long neck rod (59)

This is secured with an M4 x 25mm socket screw, an M4 locknut and three M4 washers, as can be seen in the exploded view below:

So it should now look like this:

The next page is the assembly of the head / jaws.
